SEMESTER 2 2021

This year has brought an abundance of challenges, namely, transferring our learning online and being away from our regular school routine. However, 2PH has remained resilient amongst the changes and has stayed engaged in learning every step of the way. Our teachers have been with us, supporting us online and also sending flat versions of themselves so that they could join us on our home learning journey.

In English, we have been learning about persuasive writing. We wrote letters to our teacher and parents trying to convince them of our opinion, such as “Chocolate is better than ice cream”. We’ve now shifted our focus to imaginative writing for the remainder of the semester and we’re looking forward to putting our best imaginative ideas to paper.

In maths, last term, we learnt about different strategies we can use when we add and subtract numbers. Our class favourite was the split strategy as we found it the easiest. Now we are revising multiplication and division. We are remembering the vocabulary from the unit such as groups of, columns, rows, arrays, equal etc. We are also learning about time and money which is always fun. In the age of digital transactions via watch and phone, we need to remember that notes and coins are still part of everyday life.

In science and geography, we investigated the Great Barrier Reef and the problems it is facing with Climate Change and other challenges. Now we are learning about the mangroves in our local area and also Earth’s resources. These topics are going to be excellent! Our activities in visual arts focussed on the Great Barrier Reef too and students presented fantastic arts and crafts of sea creatures and coral reefs. Currently, we are learning to appreciate the works of some of history’s prominent artists and having a go at them for ourselves. It is a lot of fun!
