Co-curricular activities

Here at Abbotsford public school we have several co-curricular activities available for your child.

Drama group

Drama Group meets each Monday lunch time in the hall at 1:00pm. Depending on numbers Kindergarten and Stage One students work together playing drama games and learning to perform.

We all acknowledge that before we learn to read we need to learn the ABC, similarly experiencing the grounded basics is essential for a drama student. Thus we teach a variety of drama games to develop the skills that the students will need to confidently perform.

This year students are performing a movement song using ribbons and body percussion.

Students benefit from their involvement in K-2 Drama group by establishing new relationships, increasing self-confidence, gently breaking down inhibitions, encouraging concentration and logical thinking and building group dynamics.

K-2 Drama Group promotes imaginative responses whilst having fun!

Abbotsford Chess Club has three classes catering to students of all ability levels. The beginners class is aimed at new and less experienced players. The intermediate class is for players who have grasped the basic rules and principles of chess. The advanced class is for students who have demonstrated a sound understanding of chess strategy.

Public Speaking

The Talking and Listening strand of the English Key Learning Area provides opportunities for all students to improve their skills.

Regular drama activities also provide opportunities for role play and varied speaking activities. Each class presents a K-6 assembly through the year where class members act as comperes of the class assembly presentation.

In Term 2, Year 3-6 students participate in the annual Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition with 4 students selected to represent the school in zone, regional and state competitions after class and school eliminations.
