Tri-Skills Gymnastics Lessons

In Term 1 2010 Years 3-6 students will be participating in Tri Skills General Gymnastics programme, which will take place for 5 lessons starting from Wednesday 3rd February 2010 and ending Wednesday 24th February, 2010.

 

Lessons will be organised by highly skilled and experienced coaches. Modified equipment will be used.

 

Carefully structured and progressive lessons will ensure that children learn:

  • Safety exercises beginning with safe landings
  • Body orientation through rolls and twists
  • Balance and team work skills
  • Power skills such as jumping and leaping
  • New forms of locomotion such as cartwheels and vaults
  • Strength and flexibility through handstands and floor exercises

 

Students will gain through:

* social skills                individual, partner and group activities

* confidence                modified skills providing high success levels

* self-esteem               proven successful skill progressions

* co -ordination              learning new, progressively more advanced skills

* fitness                       high levels of activity time each lesson

 

The expertise of 2 qualified coaches provide the necessary safe and modified equipment that the school can not provide (one or more fully equipped trucks). Tri Skills have Australian Gymnastics Federation approved programs and skill progressions.

 

 

Equipment                Activities


Wedges                       sideways, forwards, backwards and shoulder rolls.

Beam                          balance on feet and seated, travel and balance, turns, leaps and routines.

P-Bar                          static shapes, swinging skills, travel along the bars, inverted skills and strength work.

Mini Tramps                 star, tuck, straight, straddle, pike, skateboard and novelty landings.

Vault                           side, through, straddle vaults and landings, roll along the vault.

Floor Strips                  handstands and bunny jumps to handstand, cartwheels, acrobatic balances and pyramids.

 

Please note that children work at their own pace and dependant upon previous experience at differing levels. Children may attain different ability levels dependant upon their personal application. Not all skills maybe covered dependant upon the ability and age of the children involved.

 

Gymnastics is a compulsory section of the PD/Health/PE curriculum and all children are expected to participate.

 

REMEMBER the TRI SKILL RULES:

 

  1. No watches or jewellery
  2. Short or bike shorts are preferable to skirts
  3. Long hair tied back
