Library

Abbotsford Public School has a well-stocked library which is a centre for literature and resource-based learning. Students K-6 have access to a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books and are encouraged to read for both information and enjoyment.

The library is open from Monday to Friday and all classes visit the library during this time. Each lesson is of 40 minutes duration and students are shown and read a variety of books to help instil in them a love of literacy. Students are explicitly taught research and presentation skills and how to use a wide range of resources to gain knowledge and information.

Students and teachers are encouraged to view the library as an integral service which supports and goes hand-in-hand with all learning.

The library is open from 8:30 am each morning (with the exception of Tuesdays) and during the second half of lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students may borrow, browse, colour pictures or play a quiet game during this time. Parents are most welcome to visit before school (up until 8:50 am).

'Every school day is library day'

Borrowing

Students in Kindergarten may borrow one book per visit;

Students in Stage 1 may borrow two books per visit;

Students in Stage 2 may borrow up to four books per visit and

Students in Stage 3 students may borrow up to six books per visit.

We strongly encourage students to borrow from all sections of the library and to share their chosen books with their families.

In order to protect the resources, we ask that all students use a library bag to transport books to and from school. Any suitable bag is acceptable.
